Jag har fått för mig att Jonathan Safran Foer (som något irriterande bara är två år äldre än mig) är lite över min nivå och därför undvikit romanerna Everything Is Illuminated och Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Men i decembernumret av amerikanska Vogue skriver han en lysande artikel som (nästan) fick mig att springa till Barnes & Noble och köpa böckerna.

Artikeln handlar om hur Jonathan Sarfran Foer lärde känna målaren Francesco Clemente (som i artikeln målar ett porträtt av Natalia Vodianova, så snygg att man knappt står ut) i Berlin över pingis:

De spelade "a communal form of Ping-Pong that, as far as I know, is played nowhere else on Earth. About 30 young people - however many people are there and in the mood - orbit the table. When it's your turn, you hit the ball to the person opposite, then continue to orbit until you make it to the other side of the table and it's your shot again. When you miss a shot - or the person across from you hits the winner (which as in the very old days of tennis, os frowned upon) - you're out.

As the circle thins, it necessarily orbits faster, as there's more distance for each person to cover. By the time there are only a handful of players, trotting has become running. And when there are only two, the finalists play a short game to five, according to the customary rules. This is as simple to undertand in person as as it is hard to describe on paper".

Jag tycker att det är en mycket fin beskrivning av rundpingis, som spelas (i alla fall spelades) på varenda fridigsgård i Sverige. Tror att jag måste skicka ett mail till honom om det.
